In a fantastic run and a great vindication of their right to be in the competition, the Ireland Women's Bobsleigh team have fininished a very creditable 17th in the Women's Bobsleigh at the Vancouver Winter Olympics.

A new website dedicated to Stroke information has been launched by the Irish Health Foundation. www.stroke.ie will serve as a resource for stroke related queries as well as a portal for the campaign to increase awareness of stroke and to improve the provision of stroke services nationally.

We wrote recently about the fact that the number of people awaiting treatment on trolleys in Ireland's hospitals was in danger of reaching the levels of 2006- 485- which prompted Health Minister Mary Harney to declare as a 'state of emergency'. Sir Michael Parkinson, the acclaimed broadcaster and chat show host, today published a report looking back on his year as Ambassador for the UK Governments 'Dignity for the Elderly Campaign'
Although the campaign is UK based, the report does highlight many of the same issues faced by the care sector in Ireland, not least some of the funding issues and the giant steps that need to be made to ensure quality care for all.

400 waiting on hospital trolleys

The Irish Nurses and Midwives organisation have claimed that as many as 400 people are lying waiting for a bed or further treatments in A & E departments up and down the country.
The levels are rapidly approaching the 2006 levels of 485 patients which prompted health Minister Mary Harney to declare 'a state of emergency'

A group of young children from the local national school in Trim, arrived at Knightsbridge Care Home on a blustery Wednesday afternoon, 9th December. The children arrived in their Santa hats full of Christmas spirit and eager to perform for the residents. Christmas Carols and festive favourites filled the home as residents and some of the children decorated trees, and fire mantles. A huge thank you to all the children and their teachers for a most enjoyable afternoon.

It has been revealed that elderly people on the state pension are heating just one room of their homes and foregoing purchasing new clothes in order to make ends meet during the recession.

Residents of Knightsbridge Care Home enjoyed another wonderful afternoon of entertainment provided by local musician, Matt Gilsenan. Matt, surprised the residents on Wed. afternoon 25th November, with a great afternoon of ceol agus craic.
