MEATH STROKE SUPPORT GROUP

Meath Stroke Support Group is a new voluntary group based at Knightsbridge Village in Trim. The purpose of the group is to provide support for people who have experienced stroke. The main focus of the group is to provide both a social outlet to exchange experiences and frustrations related to Stroke as well as stroke related excercises. The first meeting of the Meath Stroke Support Group was held on Wednesday 2nd December at Knightsbridge Village. the meeting was well attended and there was strong interest in meeting again. Those attending the meeting included people who have experienced stroke as well as some family members and friends seeking to support and find out more about stroke. On Thursday 3rd December, George Banister of Meath Stroke Support Group accompanied by Mark Hennessy of Barchester Healthcare travelled to Drogheda to the radio sudios of LMFM to discuss stroke on Gerry Kelly's - The Late Lunch Show. They were joined in the discussion by Mark DeLargy, a stroke rehabilitation consultant. Mark Hennessy spoke about the newly formed Meath Stroke Support Group whilst George Bannister spoke about his personal experience of stroke. One of George's key messages was that life after stroke was "not over just different". Mark DeLargy spoke about the new Stroke Manifesto launced recently by the Irish Heart Foundation as well as the lack of public awareness of Stroke and how to prevent Stroke occuring.
