The St. Patrick’s Day celebrations started early in Knightsbridge Village, Barchester Healthcare’s Nursing Home & Retirement Village, Trim with the news that Fergal Dunne, who works as a host in the Nursing Home was crowned the ‘Thorny Rose’ of Trim at the inaugural competition held in Knightsbrook Hotel.
Fergal and his alter-ego 'Lucy Longsausage' accompanied by chaperon, Jack Carroll swept aside the competition, which was loosely modeled on the Rose of Tralee Festival. The contestants were interviewed in full female atire before performing a party piece in front of an appreciative audience. Lucy's winning performance included a unique rendition of 'Proud Mary' by Tina Turner, which stole the show. A great evening was had by all and helped to raise much needed funds for the Boyne Valley Group, a branch of the Chernobyl Childrens’ Trust. Well done again to Fergal 'Lucy' and Jack!
On St. Patrick’s Day, a number of residents attended the Trim St. Patrick’s Day parade with the Knightsbridge Village Bus forming part of the procession. Later that afternoon, Knightsbridge Village Hall was transformed into a pub, courtesy of friends and supporters in McCormack’s Bar, Trim. Residents & their families enjoyed an afternoon of music by Paud Griffin as well as a guest performance by the newly crowned Thorny Rose Fergal ‘Lucy’ Dunne. The afternoon continued with singing, dancing and pub grub for all.
Commenting on the St. Patrick’s Day event, Catherine Condon, Operations Support Manager at Knightsbridge Village said; ‘We are very proud of Fergal’s achievement and his entertaining performance at Knightsbridge Village Hall. We were also delighted to be able to take part in the parade itself this year and look forward to many more St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations to come’
