Alzheimer's Society asks for support from Home Retail Group in Ireland, UK
24/2/2010
The Alzheimer's Society is one of five shortlisted charities for Home Retail Group's (HRG's) charity of the year and is asking for the votes of their employees, in a process open from February 22nd to March 26th.
HRG, which owns Argos and Homebase, could provide a great opportunity worth at least £2 million over two years for Irish and UK interests and the Alzheimer's Society hopes a successful partnership would increase awareness of dementia and help in removing the stigma still attached to it.
The correspondence with HRG will be known as the Care Well campaign and money raised will be spent on local carers in communities across Ireland and the UK.
It was concluded: "Dementia is not a natural part of ageing; it is caused by diseases of the brain. Over time, walking, talking and even personality can be affected. A carer is often the single most important person in the life of a person with dementia."
Many of the Alzheimer's Society's 25,000 members have personal experience of dementia, whether they are carers, health professionals or have dementia themselves.
